The soul of a new tureen

Hands at work.

Eight point two five pounds of clay. That's what you're looking at. That, and my friend Bob's hands, as he begins to throw the bowl of a new tureen, a brand new design, a prototype that will be tweaked and tested before being added to his line of serving pieces and dinnerware.

Seven soups every Saturday: gluten-free soup recipes

Blue Polish tureen

Does gluten-free scare you? It scares me, a little bit. I'm not totally versed in GF cooking, but I know that, like people with food allergies, folks who are gluten-intolerant could really be harmed by the addition of an ingredient I don't know contains gluten, and I surely don't want that to happen. If you're setting out to create a gluten-free soup for the first time, start by reading my friend Karina's invaluable "cheat sheet", Gluten-Free Diet ABCs, on Gluten-Free Goddess. Those who eat gluten-free out of necessity or choice, and eat soup out of love, are in luck; many soup recipes are naturally gluten-free, and many more can be made GF with the careful choice of condiments (GF soy sauce, for example), thickeners (potatoes or whole grains instead of flour), toppings and store-bought stock.

Welcome to Soup Chick

Fish tureen

If you're a fan of James Bond movies, you know all about the long lead-in. The title and opening credits appear onscreen after you've been watching the movie for a while and you're just starting to figure out who's who and what's what.

Soup Chick sprang to life two weeks ago, but I wanted to have enough to show you before the title and opening credits rolled.

Welcome to Soup Chick®, a blog about all things soup.

Hot soup, cold soup, budget-friendly soup, healthy soup, and to-die-for rich and creamy soup. Vegetarian soup and gluten-free soup. Soups from the slow cooker and some day, when I conquer my fear, pressure cooker soups. And soups from every corner of the world, because everyone, everywhere, makes soup.

You'll find seven soups every Saturday, from seven food blogs, to inspire your weekend shopping and cooking. From time to time, I'll write about cookbooks, soup pots, bowls and tureens, too.

If you're a soup lover, please bookmark or sign up for free updates by email or RSS feed, so you never miss a soup recipe. If you have a favorite soup to share, or would like me to post a recipe for a particular soup, please let me know in the comments or by email.

That's it.

Soup Chick®. All things soup. Mostly recipes.

I hope you like it.
