Seven soups every Saturday: shellfish soup recipes

Clams, mussels, oysters, scallops, shrimp. Here in New England, they all spell chowder, because that's our soup, but don't feel limited by our provincialism. Popular in all coastal countries, shellfish soups take on regional flavors and spices, combining them with locally available seafood to create famous specialties like bouillabaise, cioppino and tom yom koong. Before you shop for shellfish, visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch site to check their seafood recommendations, and print one of their handy pocket guides to keep in your market basket.

Seven shellfish soup recipes caught my eye this week:

Ginger and clam soup, from Rasa Malaysia

Bouillabaisse (French seafood stew), from Just One Cookbook

Easy seafood stew, from Souvlaki for the Soul

Seafood miso soup, from Wrightfood

Jjambbong (Korean-Chinese spicy noodle soup), from Eating and Living

Shrimp, potato and fennel chowder, from Cookin' Canuck

Italian mussel soup with tomatoes, from Hunger Angler Gardener Cook

Find more delicious shellfish soup recipes on Food Blog Search. Come back every Saturday for seven soup recipes to enjoy any day of the week.

Kalyn, I love soups with shellfish, and we're so lucky to have local shellfish here in New England.
