Seven soups every Saturday: wild rice soup recipes
Here in the northeast United States, wild rice doesn't grow wild. In fact, it doesn't grow at all. Like most everyone else in the world, we import our wild rice from its natural habitats in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Manitoba, Canada, where the rice grows in deep water and is harvested by boat. The nutty crunch of wild rice marries perfectly with sweet potatoes and pumpkin and cranberries, and with all varieties of mushrooms. Wild rice isn't a budget item; it costs three or four times the price of long-grain white rice. Fortunately, a little goes a long way in a pot of soup, so if you can, please splurge and buy a bag to keep in your pantry.

Kalyn, I need to use wild rice more often. I always seem to have a bag in the pantry, so I hope that by spotlighting these recipes, I will remind myself to add it to soups. In fact, one of the soups in my Soup Swap this year was a rich mushroom and wild rice soup with sherry. Can't wait to share that recipe here on the blog.
Your timing is uncanny! I've had the biggest urge to have wild rice this past week. I did use it in a pilaf but have really been craving a good soup with it and these look great.
