Seven soups every Saturday: soup recipes with fresh or frozen peas

In the house where I grew up, peas meant one of two things: Le Sueur tiny peas in a can (remember the silver label?); or, supernaturally bright green peas in a freezer bag with supernaturally bright, uniformly square orange carrots. It's no wonder I never quite fell in love with peas when I was a child. However, there's always a bag of peas in my grown-up freezer -- good, organic, individually quick frozen (IQF) peas -- and one way I use them is in soup. A handful here, a cupful there, tossed in late in the cooking for great texture or blended to a glorious green silkiness, in hot soup or chilled... well, now that the first day of Spring is less than two weeks away, I'm finally on board with peas.

Kalyn, do you grow peas in your garden? There are some wonderful recipes here.

Joyce, I love split pea soup, too. Today's recipes are for fresh or frozen peas, but there are several split pea recipes here on Soup Chick.

CJ, 10 more days until spring. I can hardly wait.

I went to make a rice pilaf yesterday and discovered I had no frozen peas!!! I couldn't believe it, I never let myself run out of those!
