Seven soups every Saturday: Thai soup recipes

Our favorite local Thai restaurant, Thai Village in Boston's South End, offers the two most popular soups: Tom Kha Gai (chicken coconut) and Tom Yom Goong (shrimp and lime). Most people gravitate towards one or the other, the way most people prefer chocolate or vanilla, but there are many more Thai soups to try, in addition to soups that aren't strictly Thai by tradition, but incorporate the salty-sweet-lime flavors of Thailand.

I love Thai flavors in soups...sweet, sour and spicy. My current favorite is coconut red curry, but I will have to give some of these a try.

Yumm, Thai. It seems like I am on a real Thai kick lately so I'll definitely try some of these soups. And thanks for featuring my Thai Chicken Soup.

Jeanette, I love coconut red curry. With mussels, with shrimp, with tofu and basil. Just love it.

Kalyn, I've been on a Thai kick for a few years. I think it's the lime that often finishes these recipes. Very addictive.

Thai soups: I'm so excited! Your picture is beautiful, with its varied, subtle colors, the arrangement of cilantro and lime, the lovely bowl.

If I had to choose a favorite cuisine, it would be Thai - the layering of spices, flavors, textures is fabulous. Do you have a favorite red curry paste? I'm still searching - although maybe I should try making my own.

Middle son is now going to school in Boston - we will have to try Thai Village.
