Seven soups every Saturday: soup recipes with lime
Winter in New England: a difficult place to be a locavore. Truth be told, if I were really an eat-local-only person, I'd be slurping acorn soup, and washing it down with compost tea. One of the few things that makes winter food bearable month after month is citrus; the bright tartness of lemon, lime and orange wakes up our hibernating palates. Each citrus fruit contributes a unique flavor. My favorite, lime, combines particularly well with the root vegetables we have in abundance, and every mouthful of lime-tinged soup reminds me of a warm and sunny place.
Seven soup recipes made with lime caught my eye this week:
Sopa de lima (Mexican lime soup), from Homesick Texan
Coconut-lime turkey (or chicken) and rice soup, from Kalyn's Kitchen
Cold avocado, orange and lime soup, from La Tartine Gourmande
Fresh vegetable soup with lime, from Gluten-Free Goddess
Spicy lentil soup with lime, from Nami-Nami
Thai curry lime noodle soup with fried egg, from Bitchin' Camero
Black bean soup with pumpkin, lime and chipotles, from Enlightened Cooking

I share your feelings about trying to eat local in the winter. It's hard not to notice how that idea is so popular in California, lol! I love lime as an addition to soup; so many of my favorite soups have it!
On the guilt front, this is citrus season. Since we'll never see a local lime or lemon here in New England, seasonal trumps local.
I love soups with some citrus!
