"Soup", a poem by Carl Sandburg
I saw a famous man eating soup.
I say he was lifting a fat broth
Into his mouth with a spoon.
His name was in the newspapers that day
Spelled out in tall black headlines
And thousands of people were talking about him.
When I saw him,
He sat bending his head over a plate
Putting soup in his mouth with a spoon.
I think if Carl Sandburg knew the Soup Chick, he would have been writing a poem about you! I took a page from your book this week, and made French Canadian Pea Soup with my leftover holiday ham. Delicious, and it made enough to last me until the Spring! Happy New Year!
Love the poem. Wish I could recite poetry like this from memory.
TW, it sounds like you're ready for a soup swap. Be sure to read tomorrow's (Saturday's) post about how to trade your soups for others. Happy new year to you, and thanks for being a Soup Chick fan.
Kalyn, when I was growing up, there was a backlash in education against learning to recite from memory, and so I never learned how to do it very well. I think that's why I'm not very good at telling jokes, either.
