Seven soups every Saturday: chicken noodle soup recipes
I want it when I'm sniffly. I want it when I'm grumpy. I want chicken noodle soup when I'm happy, or sad, or hungry. I want it to remind me of the canned soup my mother served when I was a little girl, but with less salt and with noodles that have more oomph. I want a vegetable or two. And I want a little bit of chicken fat floating on the top. Other than that, I'm open to anything.
Seven chicken noodle soup recipes caught my eye this week:
Malaysian chicken noodle soup with Asian greens and chili-soy sauce, from Steamy Kitchen
Old fashioned chicken noodle soup slow cooker recipe, from A Year of Slow Cooking
Sichuan-style chicken noodle soup, from Appetite for China
Get well chicken noodle soup, from Andrea Meyers
Broccoli and chicken noodle soup, from Dine & Dish
Creamy roasted chicken noodle soup, from For the Love of Cooking
Green tea chicken noodle soup, from Quickies on the Dinner Table

On Saturdays through the end of the year, I'm featuring handmade holiday gifts for soupies from Etsy.com. Click on the photo to learn more about this item. (Photo used with permission from the artist.)
My Pennsylvania Dutch grandmothers used to make chicken soup with corn, chopped hard boiled eggs and "rivels" -- a dough of flour, egg and water that was dropped by little pieces into the hot soup to cook. Not so far from egg drop, really. I can't say I ever get hungry for that version.
Homemade chicken noodle (with my mom's homemade "fat noodles") was my favorite soup from childhood. Always so warm and comforting.
Another great roundup of soups, I especially like the photo of Sichuan-style chicken noodle soup. Also, have been thinking of a green tea soup recently, so nice to see that too.
im going to try the get well recipe.....it seems the most basic of the lot and the pic made my mouth water :)
Jean, I've had that soup, and those rivels are definitely filling!
Kalyn, it's definitely that childhood association with chicken noodle soup that makes it special. A rich yellow broth and slurpy noodles, that's what does it for me.
Jeanette, I'm trying to broaden my chicken noodle soup horizons!
Milton, same here. Hope it cures any sniffles you might have.
