Seven soups every Saturday: soup recipes with sausage

Seven tea cups for soup

My family are not pork people, so when I was growing up, we stayed away from the sausage we saw in the market. These days, sausages made out of everything imaginable -- including things I do eat, like chicken, beef and salmon -- are easy to find in the regular grocery store, and keep for months in the freezer. Soups made with sausage exude comfort, and, best of all, just a few pieces of sausage transform a side soup into the main event.

Seven soup recipes made with sausage caught my eye this week:

Spinach, white bean and turkey sausage soup, from Closet Cooking

Sweet potato and sausage soup, from Smitten Kitchen

Butternut squash, farro and sausage soup, from Bitchin' Camero

Sausage and tortellini soup, from Chaos in the Kitchen

Sausage and kale split pea soup, from Kitchen Parade

Wild rice, mushroom and sausage soup, from Recipe Girl

Italian sausage and zucchini soup, from Kalyn's Kitchen

Find more delicious soup recipes made with sausage with Food Blog Search. Come back every Saturday for seven soup recipes to enjoy any day of the week.

My friend Peter, who owns a pousada in Brazil, serves delicate soups in these fabulous tea cups: "From my collection of 1820ish American soft paste china, built over many years of antique shows and a bit of eBay more recently (but like everything else, prices are today way out of sight). The design of the cup and handle is called London. They are elegant with consomme, cold or jellied, or with any number of cold cream soups -- cucumber and dill with a bit of salmon caviar, or maybe gazpacho."

If you'd like to share photos of seven soup bowls from your kitchen -- or from a friend's house, or your parents' attic, or an antique shop, or a housewares store, or a school or restaurant -- I'd love to share those photos on Saturdays.

It's easy: send one photo, of seven soup bowls or soup mugs. The bowls must all be able to be used for eating soup, and they absolutely do not have to match. Send the largest file your camera will allow; I'll size it to fit. Make sure the photo is in focus (very important). Tell me whose bowls are in the photo, or where you took the picture. If you're a blogger, I'll link to your blog.

That's it. One photo, seven soup bowls. Email to lydia AT ninecooks DOT com.

How funny. I came for this recipe round-up because I love sausage and I specially love sausage in soups, particularly bean soup. I'm a Brazilian so this post we delightful not only for the round-up of recipes but also for the picture. Minas Gerais, where your friend has his pousada is magical. Have you been?
