Seven soups every Saturday: chocolate soup recipes

Chocolate soup. It's either the best idea ever, or the least probable. As a chocolate lover, I'm going with best idea ever. Lest you think that chocolate means sweet, remember that chocolate pairs with warm spices like cumin, and with chile peppers, in ways that are undeniably savory.

Seven soups every Saturday: strawberry soup recipes

Last weekend, my husband Ted and two neighborhood kids shoveled out and sifted last year's compost pile, which is enclosed on three sides by a low stone wall. In years past we must have dropped a bit of the "black gold" around the outside of the wall, because we noticed hundreds of strawberries growing there. Strawberries and asparagus are two of the first things to hit our local farmers markets in the Spring, and I love to combine them in salads. Each, on its own, also makes wonderful soup.

Recipe for chocolate soup with whipped cream

Chocolate soup 

Chocolate soup? Yes! It's every kid's dream, but this is definitely a soup for adults, too. Served with or without a big plop of whipped cream on top, this smooth-as-velvet soup makes the perfect ending to almost any meal. It's like a cup of rich hot cocoa in a bowl, so a little is all you need. And you can make it in advance; it's just as good chilled.
