The Saturday Simmer: Soup, stew and chili recipes with chocolate or cocoa

Turkey and white bean chili with chocolate, from Kalyn's Kitchen.

For some, Valentine's Day means a Whitman chocolate sampler in the familiar yellow box, purchased at the local pharmacy. Others present the people they love with chocolate in savory main dishes, like this turkey and white bean chili with chocolate, from Kalyn's Kitchen. Sweet or savory, chocolate adds a bit of romance to any meal, and it should definitely be on the menu for Valentine's Day.

A variety of soup, stew and chili recipes with chocolate or cocoa caught my eye this week:

Chocolate and black bean chili, from One Perfect Bite

Pumpkin soup with chocolate and chipotle, from Local Kitchen

Turkey and white bean chili with chocolate, from Kalyn's Kitchen

Dark chocolate and red wine beef stew, from Not Quite Nigella

Hearty oxtail stew Crockpot recipe, from A Year of Slow Cooking

Marshmallow panna cotta with peppermint "hot chocolate" soup, from Culinary Concoctions by Peabody

Dark chocolate soup with cinnamon-toasted poundcake croutons, from The Love Family of 5

Chocolate chili, from Kitchen Parade

Black bean chili with chocolate and coconut, from Gimme Some Oven

Which will you try first? What intrigues you? Please leave feedback on the original recipe post, and let us know if you've made or adapted any of these recipes. See you next Saturday, and every Saturday, with more soups, stews and chili.

What a great collection this week! I was not sure about the idea of chocolate in chili until I tried it, but it really adds a nice touch. Thanks for including my chili.

Great recipes, Lydia - thank you! I'm intrigued by the dark chocolate and red wine combo. I wouldn't think to put them together, but the possibilities are enticing.

Kalyn, my pleasure. Isn't it fun to find savory chocolate recipes?

Judy, can't wait to hear which one you try.
