Vegan sweet potato, lentil and raisin stew, from The Perfect Pantry
Dishes from North Africa often feature dried fruit in combination with meat. This sweet potato, lentil and raisin stew, from The Perfect Pantry, contains no meat, but it brings in the sweetness of raisins and traditional warm flavors: cumin, paprika, and the fiery, smoky harissa I find so addictive. This nutritious vegan stew stands on its own as a main course. You also can serve it over couscous, with a simple green salad on the side.

This made a wonderful dinner tonight. I loved the heat, but needed a little raita type coolness with it. Harissa brands vary in heat, I suppose?
Susan, I imagine every brand of harissa is just a little bit different in heat level. I'm glad you found a way to cool the dish down to your liking. (Someone else emailed to tell me she thought the dish was too mild! Go figure.)
