Gluten-free, dairy-free New England clam chowder, from GFE Gluten Free Easily
As a New England girl, I'm partial to traditional chowders made in the traditional way, but for those who eat gluten-free, chowders thickened with flour can pose a real danger to their health. Shirley, who writes GFE Gluten Free Easily, takes the worry out of this classic soup with her recipe for gluten-free, dairy-free New England clam chowder. It's got all of the classic ingredients, including plenty of clams and potatoes, with a rich base thickened with gluten-free flour. In my part of the world, clam chowder is a year-round treat, but I love it most in summer, with some farm-fresh ears of corn on the side.

Perfect timing! I was just telling my mom that I wanted to make a dairy free chowder this week. Thanks!
Thanks so very much for sharing my recipe, Lydia! What a treat to get online for a few minutes while on vacation and see your post! :-) Soon the weather will be cool enough that both Mr. GFE and I will be ready for some of this clam chowder.
Shirley
Alyssa, so glad this recipe came just at the right time!
Shirley, hope you are enjoying your vacation and not checking email too often. Thanks for sharing this recipe; I'm a fool for any type of New England clam chowder.
Hey Lydia, we are enjoying our vacation and I'm not online too much. ;-) Last night's B&B was so remoted that neither cell phones nor internet were available!
Just wanted to comment again because a reader pointed out that the Better Than Bouillon Clam Base is NOT dairy free. The formulation must have changed or I missed that fact early on. :-( Will investigate further and get back to you with truly 100% dairy-free options.
